Fred's education and career was in computer sciences. He was born in West Virginia but his family relocated to Fort Lauderdale, FL. where he grew up. After college graduation, career moves took him from Boca Raton, FL to Huntsville, AL to Orlando, FL and finally to Atlanta, GA.
He retired in 2007 and now lives on Lake Lanier in north Georgia. His personal interests have always been in the outdoors with a focus on diverse activities that require discipline and result in synergistic measurable products:

You may find it fascinating to ask Fred what he is doing when you call him to discuss woodturning products. He may be in the TURNCRAFTER wood shop, or on his John Deere plowing some 2 1/2 acres of vegetable garden, or in the woods hunting wild hogs while searching out fallen hardwood trees. He could be in the woods, selecting just the right cuts for his next bowls or photographing new bowls for his website, or cutting up some neighbor's fallen pecan heirloom.
Fred is married to Kathy and they have three beautiful daughters. Two daughters are married and live in Georgia and Alabama respectively. Their youngest daughter will graduate from UGA in 2012.
